10 legislators face music over truancy

JAKARTA: A total of 10 legislators will be questioned by the House of Representatives disciplinary body over their failure in the previous sitting period to attend either plenary or working sessions three times in a row, without permission or notification.

Disciplinary chairman Slamet Effendy Yusuf said the ten would be summoned separately and would have to provide a valid reason for their absence because the House regulations were clear that their legislative function should be a top priority.

The group comprised Sa'adun Sibromalisi and Ahmad Kurdi Moekri from the United Development Party (PPP), Ghani Kasuba and Mutamimmul Ula from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Dedy Djamaludin Malik and Latifah Iskandar from the National Mandate Party (PAN), Nursjahbani Katjasungkana and Fuad Anwar from the National Awakening Party (PKB), Marwah Daud from the Golkar Party, and Azidin from the Democrat Party.

Sanctions for such a violation range from a written reprimand to a recall the party. --JP
