10 killed in road crash
SURAKARTA, Central Java: Ten people died and two others were injured when a bus slammed into a van near Karanganyar on Monday, Antara reported.
All the victims were passengers of the Rosalia Indah transit van which served the Malang-Surabaya-Surakarta route. Seven died at the scene while the others died at Dr. Oen Hospital.
A 10-year-old boy, the only passenger on the van to survive the crash, suffered a bone fracture, according to Antara.
Surakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. J.J. Sitompul said a manhunt was underway for the driver of Sabar-Subur who fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Witness accounts claim the crash occurred when the Sabar-Subur driver lost control over his bus and smashed into the transit van which was coming from the opposite direction. (05)
