MOROWALI, MAL \u2013 A delegation from the Zimbabwe Investment Development\nAgency (ZIDA) conducted a benchmarking visit to the Indonesia Morowali\nIndustrial Park (IMIP) from 8 to 12 June 2026 to study IMIP\u2019s downstream\ninvestment development model, which is considered relevant for\nstrengthening the steel sector and increasing the value addition of\nmineral-based industries in their country.<\/p>\n
The visit underscores global recognition of IMIP as a benchmarking\ndestination for building integrated manufacturing zones based on\npartnership. The downstream investment model is regarded as strategic\nfor reinforcing Indonesia\u2019s position as a relevant and experienced\ndevelopment partner at the international level.<\/p>\n
During the visit, the ZIDA delegation, comprising Noel Mahombera\n(Head of Business Development), Robin Musonza (Research Manager), Pardon\nNyandoro (Investment Manager for Economics), Davison Vandira (Investment\nManager for Preparation and Development), and Nyasha Makuni (Investment\nAnalyst), explored various key areas within IMIP. They were accompanied\nby representatives from Indonesia\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the\nIndonesian Embassy in Harare. Locations visited included the airport,\njetty, production areas, and off-site facilities such as the Morowali\nMetal Industry Polytechnic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe focus of our delegation\u2019s visit is to study the concept of\nnatural resource-based industrial estate development, downstream steel\nindustry, integrated estate governance, supply chain integration,\ninvestment facilitation, as well as logistics and export systems,\u201d said\nNoel Mahombera, ZIDA\u2019s Head of Business Development.<\/p>\n
\u201cZimbabwe wants to open opportunities for inter-state cooperation and\nobserve the Chinese investment with Indonesia on the type of business\nmodel at IMIP. ZIDA wants to understand how the cooperation system\nbetween these two countries is structured,\u201d he added when received by\nIMIP management representatives. The Zimbabwean delegation also\nspecifically inquired about the downstream investment value of IMIP for\nsupporting facilities such as the airport, jetty, and accommodation.<\/p>\n
The high level of enthusiasm and technical questions posed by the\nZIDA delegation indicate Zimbabwe\u2019s serious interest in adapting the\nIMIP model within the context of their national industrial development,\nparticularly concerning investment structure, logistics capacity, and\nhuman resource management.<\/p>\n
This visit opens concrete opportunities for strengthening bilateral\nrelations between Indonesia and Zimbabwe in the field of capital\ninvestment, especially in investment promotion, mineral downstreaming,\nand the development of natural resource-based industrial estates.
