        "content": "<p>Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and\nCorrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, has spoken out regarding the\ndissolution of watch-together (nobar) events for the documentary film\n\u2018Pig Feast: Colonialism in Our Time\u2019. One such incident was the\ncancellation at the University of Mataram in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).\nYusril emphasised that the government has never issued instructions\nprohibiting the screening or nobar events for the documentary \u2018Pig\nFeast\u2019. According to him, the dissolutions of nobar events for \u2018Pig\nFeast\u2019 in several areas stem from administrative issues. \u201cNot all\ncampuses have banned the screening of that documentary film. At the\nUniversity of Mataram and UIN Mataram in Lombok, the nobar for that film\nwas prohibited due to administrative procedure issues alone,\u201d Yusril\nstated in a written remark, quoted from detikNews on Thursday\n(14\/5\/2026). \u201cMeanwhile, at other campuses in Bandung and Sukabumi, the\nnobar for that film proceeded without any hindrance,\u201d he added.\nAccording to Yusril, this pattern indicates that the dissolution or\nhalting of nobar events for the film is not a directive from the\ngovernment or law enforcement authorities in a centralised manner.\nYusril considers the implicit critiques in the documentary to be a\nnormal matter. It is known that the documentary \u2018Pig Feast\u2019 contains\ncritiques of the National Strategic Project (PSN) in Papua, which is\nseen as disrupting environmental preservation. That project is also\ndeemed to interfere with the customary rights of Papuan communities and\nthe living environment. \u201cI consider such critiques to be perfectly\nnormal, although there is indeed a provocative narrative. The title of\nthe documentary itself is controversial. \u2018Pig Feast: Colonialism in Our\nTime\u2019 appears to be provocative,\u201d he said. Nevertheless, Yusril urged\nthe public not to be provoked by the film\u2019s title, which he believes was\nintentionally crafted to attract public attention. The government, he\nstated, can also draw lessons from the critiques presented through the\nfilm. \u201cJust let the public watch it, then afterwards, feel free to hold\ndiscussions and debates. In this way, the public becomes critical, and\npros and cons can emerge,\u201d Yusril said. \u201cThe government can glean wisdom\nfrom that film to evaluate if there are any steps in the field that need\nimprovement,\u201d he continued. Yusril Denies Accusations of Modern\nColonialism On the other hand, Yusril refuted accusations labelling land\nopening in South Papua as modern colonial practices. Yusril explained\nthat the land opening in South Papua began in 2022 during the\nadministration of the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), coinciding\nwith regional expansions in Papua. That project is being continued by\nthe current administration as part of national food and energy security\ninitiatives. \u201cCertainly, that project is not modern colonialism in the\ncurrent era. Papua is an integral part of the Unitary Republic of\nIndonesia,\u201d Yusril stated. \u201cThe Central Government of the Republic of\nIndonesia is not the former Dutch Government that called Papua\nNederlands Nieuw Guinea as a colonial territory in the past. Such land\nopenings also occur in Kalimantan and other islands as integral parts of\nthe Unitary Republic of Indonesia,\u201d he added. According to Yusril,\nnational strategic projects are built based on thorough studies to\nenhance public welfare. Nevertheless, he continued, the government\nremains open to critiques for evaluating field implementations. \u201cPSNs\nare built with thorough studies for public welfare, although the\nGovernment does not turn a blind eye to all shortcomings and weaknesses\nin their field implementation,\u201d he said.
