Yusril riled by BPK graft allegations<\/p>\n

Another war of words between senior state officials over
\ncorruption surfaced on Thursday, this time involving State
\nSecretary Yusril Ihza Mahendra and Supreme Audit Agency (BPK)
\nchairman Anwar Nasution.<\/p>\n
Apparently angered over Anwar's statement about indications of
\ngraft in the State Secretariat, Yusril said the country's chief
\nauditor \"used the logic of an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver.\"<\/p>\n
Yusril said that neither he nor the administrators of a number
\nof assets belonging to the State Secretary in Senayan and
\nKemayoran had done anything wrong, although he admitted that
\nmistakes had been made in the past.<\/p>\n
\"The directors only took office a few months ago. Anwar
\nmentioned past cases. They, morally and legally, have nothing to
\nbe afraid of, just like me,\" Yusril told reporters.<\/p>\n
Saying that Anwar was not \"professional as an auditor\", Yusril
\nalleged that the BPK head's statement was \"politicized\".<\/p>\n
When asked on Tuesday about what kind of irregularities he had
\nfound in the management of assets belonging to the State
\nSecretariat, Anwar said \"even an ojek driver knows about it\".<\/p>\n
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono stepped in on Wednesday to
\nmediate in a feud between Chief Justice Bagir Manan and
\nCorruption Eradication Commission (KPK) director Taufiekurrahman
\nRuki, which came to the fore after Bagir failed to comply with a
\nKPK summons for questioning in connection with a bribery case
\ninvolving businessman Probosutedjo.<\/p>\n
When Constitutional Court chief Jimly Asshiddiqie wrote to the
\nPresident, warning the government of a possible constitutional
\nviolation in its decision to raise fuel prices by an average of
\n126 percent in October, Yusril said Jimly was not an ustadz
\n(ulema).<\/p>\n
Yusril said he was disappointed with Anwar's statement, which
\nhad prompted the President to ask Yusril about the alleged
\ncorruption in the State Secretariat.<\/p>\n
Yusril also denied allegations that his office and the
\nmanagers of the State Secretariat's assets had not cooperated
\nwith the auditors.<\/p>\n
\"Who was not cooperative? We have no sins here. We're not
\nafraid,\" Yusril asserted defiantly.
\n Anwar had earlier criticized the administrators of the state
\nassets in Kemayoran for failing to cooperate with the auditors.<\/p>\n
Yusril said his office could not provide some documents needed
\nby the BPK on time as they had been submitted to the KPK for
\ninspection.<\/p>",
