Yusril ready to be summoned<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Challenging the thirty-four political parties that
\nare alleging bribery during the recent screening of political
\nparties, Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yusril Ihza
\nMahendra said Thursday that he was ready to be questioned.<\/p>\n
He warned, however, that he would "strike back" through legal
\naction should the allegation be found to be baseless.<\/p>\n
The Minister said Thursday that he was ready to respond to the
\naccusation to police investigators even without the prior consent
\nof President Megawati Soekarnoputri for the police to question
\nhim. He also said that he was ready to be jailed should the
\nallegation be found to be correct.<\/p>\n
"Everybody has the right to file a complaint against another.
\nSo go ahead, we will face it.<\/p>\n
"If the accusation is right, I will be imprisoned, but if they
\nfail to prove it, I, of course, have the right to sue them for
\nfalsifying reports," Yusril told reporters on the sidelines of a
\nseminar on human rights held by the ministry.<\/p>\n
Thirty-four political parties filed a complaint with the
\nJakarta Police on Wednesday against members of the Ministry of
\nJustice and Human Rights' verification team, alleging that they
\naccepted bribes during the screening process.<\/p>\n
Representatives of the 34 parties accused two ministry
\nofficials, Cahyo and Wicipto, of accepting money from political
\nparties during the screening process, but they also named Yusril
\nand the head of the party verification team, Ramli Hutabarat, in
\ntheir complaint to the police. --JP<\/p>",
