Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights,\nImmigration and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, has praised the\nstance of Lokataru Foundation Executive Director Delpedro Marhaen and\ncolleagues (dkk) who are facing legal proceedings openly and\nresponsibly.<\/p>\n
When he visited Delpedro in the Metro Jaya Police detention cell in\nSeptember last year, Yusril briefly urged that the legal process could\nbe faced by Delpedro and colleagues with a chivalrous attitude.<\/p>\n
\u2018As a former activist who has traversed various routes of legal\nstruggle, I tell you that as activists, Delpedro must dare to fight back\nand be a gentleman,\u2019 Yusril said when contacted in Jakarta on\nFriday.<\/p>\n
At that time, the coordinating minister asked Delpedro and colleagues\nto prove their innocence in court.<\/p>\n
Yusril then hoped that Delpedro and colleagues, as activists, should\ntreat arrests and the investigative process as a stage to practise\nbecoming future leaders.<\/p>\n
According to him, such an attitude is important for an activist to be\nable to fight for their beliefs through lawful channels and the\nlegitimate democratic process.<\/p>\n
In the acquittal verdict against Delpedro and colleagues, he noted\nthat usually judges declare rehabilitation of dignity, reputation, and\nthe defendant\u2019s standing.<\/p>\n
\u2018I have not read the decision in full yet, whether rehabilitation is\nincluded by the judge or not. If not included, Delpedro and colleagues\ncan be rehabilitated by the President,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
In addition to Delpedro, three other defendants were acquitted,\nnamely Lokataru staff Muzaffar Salim, Gejayan Memanggil admin Syahdan\nHusein, and Aliansi Mahasiswa Penggugat admin Khariq Anhar.<\/p>\n
The four defendants have been acquitted after being found not guilty\nof committing a criminal act in the alleged incitement case at the\nAugust 2025 demonstrations that ended in clashes.<\/p>\n
In court, the public prosecutors were deemed unable to present\nevidence showing any attempt at manipulation, fabrication or fraud of\nfacts by the defendants.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the Panel of Judges ordered the public prosecutors to\nrestore the rights of the defendants in their ability, position, dignity\nand honour.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the four defendants were charged with two years\u2019\nimprisonment on the basis of being convincingly proven guilty of\ncommitting the crime, namely jointly committing a crime in public with\nspoken or written incitement to urge people to commit a crime, or incite\npeople to oppose the authorities with violence.<\/p>\n
In that case, Delpedro and colleagues were accused of uploading 80\ncollaborative contents that incited hatred against the government from\n24-29 August 2025.<\/p>\n
It was stated that the defendants uploaded electronic information on\nsocial media managed by the four defendants, which urged students to\nparticipate in riots.<\/p>\n
The invitation via social media was produced from 24-29 August 2025,\nwherein the narratives uploaded by the defendants allegedly influenced\nand led students, typically underage, to be incited and follow for\nanarchy in front of the DPR RI, in front of the Metro Jaya Police, and\nat several other locations.<\/p>\n
One of the uploads cited as part of the indictment was a poster\ntitled \u2018Legal aid for students taking to the streets\u2019 with the caption\n\u2018You students taking part in the action?
