The\nopportunity was raised in response to a request from the Saudi\nAmbassador regarding a Saudi citizen currently serving a sentence in\nIndonesia, during a meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday (15\/7). \u201cThe\nprisoner transfer mechanism can be an alternative that both countries\ncan discuss based on mutual agreement and in accordance with applicable\nlegal provisions,\u201d Yusril stated on Thursday. Yusril explained that the\ncase in question has permanent legal force, meaning any steps towards\nits resolution must be carried out in accordance with Indonesian law. He\nsaid the audience discussed several alternative solutions based on\nexisting legal mechanisms, including amnesty, clemency, or inter-state\nprisoner transfer. Based on Indonesia\u2019s experience in cooperation with\nseveral countries, Yusril noted that if a prisoner transfer is agreed\nupon, the subsequent rehabilitation of the prisoner becomes the\nauthority of the receiving state according to its legal system. Yusril\nalso stressed that granting forgiveness or compensation to the victim\u2019s\nfamily does not nullify the criminal act under Indonesian law once the\ncase has a legally binding verdict. He stated that a restorative justice\napproach can only be applied to cases still under investigation,\nprosecution, or trial.
