YouTube has significantly increased its Premium subscription prices in the United States, with the individual plan rising by US$4 to US$15.99 per month and the family plan to US$26.99, following similar hikes by other global streaming platforms like Spotify and Netflix. This adjustment, the first in three years, aims to sustain key features amid rising operational costs, while the service boasts over 125 million global subscribers; it remains unclear if prices in Indonesia and other markets will be affected.

YouTube has raised its Premium subscription prices in the United
States, following the trend of tariff increases by other global
streaming platforms. The increase amounts to US$4 (Rp68,000) and will
apply from the next billing cycle.

The Alphabet-owned video platform has set the price for the
individual YouTube Premium package at US$15.99 (Rp273,000) per month, up
from the previous US$13.99 (Rp239,000). Meanwhile, the family package is
now priced at US$26.99 (Rp462,000) per month, an increase of US$4 from
the prior rate.

In addition, YouTube has raised prices for other services. The
cheaper YouTube Lite package is now US$8.99 (Rp153,000) per month. This
package offers ad-free viewing for most videos but does not include
YouTube Music Premium and still displays ads on Shorts and music
content.

Separately, the YouTube Music Premium subscription has also increased
by US$1 (Rp17,000) to US$11.99 (Rp205,000) per month.

Citing Reuters, this increase is the first YouTube has made in the US
in the last three years. It is not yet clear whether YouTube Premium in
other countries, including Indonesia, will be affected.

The rise in YouTube subscription prices comes amid a wave of global
streaming service price hikes, after Spotify first increased its
subscription prices in the US earlier this year. Netflix and Disney+
have also adjusted their tariffs to cover rising content and operational
costs.

YouTube states that the price changes are necessary to maintain their
core features, including ad-free viewing, background playback, and
access to the YouTube Music library, which boasts over 300 million
songs.

From the user perspective, YouTube has also recorded significant
subscriber growth. Last year, the combined YouTube Music and Premium
service surpassed 125 million global subscribers, up from around 100
million in 2024.
",
