Youths active during Ramadhan<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): For Moslem youth organizations the fasting month
\nof Ramadhan is a time to step up their faith propagation
\nactivities and increase social solidarity.<\/p>\n
Imaduddin Abdullah, chairman of the Al-Azhar Youth Islamic
\nStudy Club, said that another objective is self improvement.<\/p>\n
\"Self improvement comes not only from ritual activities, but
\nthrough religious understanding,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The Al-Azhar Youth Islamic Study Club, founded in 1971, is the
\nfirst mosque-based youth organization in the country. It is based
\nat the Al-Azhar grand mosque on Jl. Sisingamangaraja in Kebayoran
\nBaru, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The organization was also founded in response to the rise of
\nyouth gangs in the capital and has inspired other youths to found
\norganizations at their mosques.<\/p>\n
With more than 1,000 members between 16 and 33 years old, the
\nAl-Azhar club conducts a number of religious and social
\nactivities, many at no charge, including a course on Islamic
\naffairs and Koran reading.<\/p>\n
Mass circumcision, charity bazaars and free medical services
\nare also part of its social programs.<\/p>\n
Seven programs<\/p>\n
This year the Al-Azhar club is holding seven programs,
\nincluding radio talk shows, courses on Koran reading and Islamic
\naffairs, i'tikaf (contemplation), and an Idul Fitri card drawing
\ncontest.<\/p>\n
Small Talk will be aired on Radio Bahana 30 minutes before the
\ndaily breaking of the fast while public discussions will be held
\nevery Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Al-Azhar mosque.<\/p>\n
Public Koran reading and Islamic courses will be held on
\nMonday, Wednesday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
The Sunda Kelapa Moslem Youth organization based at the Sunda
\nKelapa Mosque in Menteng, Central Jakarta, will hold its own
\nRamadhan discussions, courses, bazaars and seminars.<\/p>\n
The discussion, open to the public every Sunday at the Sunda
\nKelapa grand mosque, will feature Toto Tasmara, Arief Rahman and
\nDr. Dadang Hawari as speakers. Comedian Dedi Gumelar (also known
\nas Mi'ing), musicians Faturrachman and Dwiki Darmawan, singer
\nWidi, artist Maudy Koesnadi, and badminton players Joko
\nSupriyanto and Ricky Subagja are also scheduled to attend.<\/p>\n
The organization's talk show, to be aired daily on Suara
\nKejayaan at 5 p.m., will feature noted ulemas, scholars, artists
\nand public figures including Ali Yafie, Imaduddin Abrurrochim,
\nDadang Hawari, Toto Tasmara, Dewi Motik Pramono, Zakky Mubarak,
\nDedy Mizwar, Neno Warisman, Meisaroh ali, Abdurrahman Arroisy,
