        "content": "<p>The Chairman of the Democratic Party Faction of the House of\nRepresentatives (DPR RI) and Vice Chairman of the MPR RI, Edhie Baskoro\nYudhoyono (Ibas), has urged young people to think critically and take an\nactive role in facing the developments of AI, social media, and\npolitical dynamics in the digital era.<\/p>\n<p>This message was delivered by Ibas while serving as the keynote\nspeaker at the National Seminar titled \u201cAI, TikTok, and Politics: Who\nDetermines Indonesia\u2019s Future?\u201d held in Jakarta on Thursday (3\/9\/2026).\nThe seminar was attended by students from various universities and\nseveral members of the Democratic Party Faction of the DPR RI.<\/p>\n<p>During the dialogue, Ibas also warned of the dangers of \u2018filter\nbubbles\u2019 and the influence of social media algorithms on how society\nacquires information. According to him, algorithms study user behaviour\nbased on what is watched, liked, skipped, shared, and even how long a\npiece of content is viewed. This condition causes users to receive\ninformation that increasingly aligns with their existing\npreferences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes we feel as though we are choosing the content. In reality,\nthe algorithm is also choosing what we will see,\u201d said Iba.<\/p>\n<p>The issue becomes more serious when these mechanisms enter the\npolitical arena. According to Edhie Baskoro, algorithms can influence\nthe information received by the public regarding the government, public\npolicy, political candidates, and social issues. Therefore, he reminded\nstudents not to equate virality with truth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cViral does not mean true. Information can be shared millions of\ntimes, but it can still be incorrect,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Ibas, an alumnus of Nanyang Technological University, assessed that\ndigital democracy requires not only freedom of speech but also the\nfreedom to think. \u201cDemocracy requires freedom of speech. However, in the\ndigital era, we must also have the freedom to think, verify data, listen\nto various perspectives, and have the courage to admit that we might be\nwrong,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Ibas also noted that politicians should not close themselves off from\nthe developments of social media, including TikTok. Politicians must be\nable to be present in various public communication spaces so that their\nideas and political work can be known by the public. However, he warned\nthat social media should not turn politics into a mere race to chase\nviews, likes, and followers.<\/p>",
