You have problems with Jakarta? Share it with 'Bang' Yos<\/p>\n

Living in the capital is not easy with its uncontrolled
\ndevelopment, pollution, traffic snarls and, more recently,
\nflooded streets.<\/p>\n
Jakartans, who want to bypass the protocol of Sutiyoso's
\nadministration in order to talk in person with Mr. Governor, can
\nnow directly voice their complaints or give their input to him
\nthanks to interactive programs being held by a private radio and
\nTV station.<\/p>\n
Starting Monday, Trijaya radio will dedicate prime time every
\nMonday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. for Sutiyoso to listen to and
\ntalk to Jakartans about various issues on air.<\/p>\n
In addition, Sutiyoso -- nicknamed Bang (older brother in
\nBetawi) Yos -- will also host a morning talk show on TV 7, titled
\nApe Kate Bang Yos (Sutiyoso says) on Tuesdays between 6:30 a.m.
\nand 7 a.m.<\/p>\n
"Unlike Sutiyoso's previous program with Lativi television
\nstation, in which the administration had to pay, both Trijaya and
\nTV 7 provide the slots for free," Jakarta spokesman Catur
\nLaswanto told The Jakarta Post on Friday.<\/p>\n
The administration terminated its arrangement last year with
\nLativi to air the Bang Yos Show.<\/p>\n
Critics have called the program a waste of taxpayers' money,
\nsaying it only served the Governor's political interests.<\/p>\n
Catur said that Sutiyoso wanted such interactive programs to
\nencourage input from the public over policies made by the
\nadministration.<\/p>\n
"As the program will held during prime time, we are sure that
\nmany Jakartans will listen to it and take part in the
\ndiscussions, even, while they are behind the wheel," he said,
\nreferring to the radio program.<\/p>\n
He added that Sutiyoso was not satisfied with the existing
\nmail box, PO BOX 0008, to which the residents could send
\ncomplaints or reports, since he could not immediately react to
\nthe complaints or reports and ensure that "the residents are
\nsatisfied with his response".<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso said last month that he was interested in direct
\ncommunication and was eager to receive calls, particularly
\ncomplaints or criticism from residents about corrupt officials.<\/p>\n
"I am sure that I would be better able to encourage public
\ninput (through the program) rather than merely waiting for my
\nsubordinates' reports," he emphasized.<\/p>\n
He said that direct communication would be more effective than
\nthe text messaging services offered by his junior in the Army,
\nPresident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.<\/p>\n
"As long as the criticism is constructive and clear, I will
\nfollow it up. Otherwise, I will certainly ignore it," he
\nasserted.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, program coordinator with Trijaya radio, Yudhi
\nDamar, said that the first show would start on Monday, discussing
\nthe assets belonging to the city administration.<\/p>\n
"This cooperation (with the administration) is for an
\nindefinite period. We will evaluate the program every three
\nmonths," he told the Post.<\/p>\n
He asserted that only callers who show goodwill and provide a
\nclear identity, would go on air with Sutiyoso.<\/p>\n
"We don't tolerate rude and offensive statements or people who
\nwant to play around with the talk show," he said, adding that the
\nstation would keep a record of the callers.<\/p>",
