Yongki executed for triple murder<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Karta Cahyadi, alias Yongki, convicted of a
\ntriple murder in the Central Javanese city of Surakarta, was
\nexecuted in the early hours of yesterday morning in Kali Sari,
\nEast Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"Yongki has just been executed in Kali Sari village,\" Head of
\nthe Central Java prosecutor's office Harry Moerdjono said in a
\npress conference at the East Jakarta prosecutor's office
\nyesterday, just one hour after the execution.<\/p>\n
With Harry were Head of the Jakarta prosecutor's office
\nSuyoto; Bagio Soepardi of the Surakarta Prosecutor's Office;
\nAssistant for General Crimes at the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office
\nAdenan Kasian; and spokesman for the Attorney General's Office
\nBasrief Arief.<\/p>\n
Harry, who was responsible for the execution process, said
\nthat the execution was carried out at 2:40 a.m. and that Yongki
\nwas pronounced dead one minute later.<\/p>\n
Yongki, 35, a resident of Jakarta, was sentenced to death by
\nthe Surakarta district court in 1990 for the brutal murder, in
\nFebruary of that year, of three members of a family whose house
\nhe was burgling.<\/p>\n
The house belonged to Utomo Kasidi, a relative of Yongki. The
\nvictims were Utomo's 11-year-old son Danny, 23-year old housemaid
\nLasiyem and Utomo's brother Sasongko Suryo, 40.<\/p>\n
Harry said that Yongki was executed by a firing squad of 14
\nofficers. Yongki was made to stand and closed his eyes.<\/p>\n
Bagio Soepardi said Yongki did not say a single word in the
\nlast minutes before he was put to death.<\/p>\n
\"Yongki was silent from the time he was fetched from the
\nCipinang penitentiary in East Jakarta,\" Bagio said.<\/p>\n
Yongki's body was later taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo
\nGeneral Hospital where his corneas were removed, for donation, in
\naccordance with his wishes. The executed man was buried at Pondok
\nRangon cemetery in East Jakarta at 2 p.m. yesterday.<\/p>\n
Yongki's death brings to three the number of men executed by
\nthe Indonesian government this year. The first was a Malaysian
\ndrug dealer, Chang Ting Chong, alias Steven, who was executed in
\nJakarta; the second was an Indonesian man, Kacong Laranu, who
\nmurdered an entire family in North Sulawesi in 1985. (imn)<\/p>",
