The Yogyakarta City Government is finalising the technical details for a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants every Friday, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs without compromising public services. Mayor Hasto Wardoyo has proposed extending office hours on weekdays to compensate for the WFH day, while Acting Secretary Dedi Budiono emphasised maximising 24/7 online services to maintain optimal service delivery. This initiative follows central government directives to improve ASN performance and is set to commence after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The Yogyakarta City Government is still refining the technical
implementation of work from home (WFH) for civil servants, planned to
apply every Friday. Acting Secretary of the Yogyakarta City Regional
Secretariat, Dedi Budiono, assured that the policy will not disrupt
services to the public.

Dedi stated that discussions on the technical aspects of WFH are
currently underway with an internal team from the City Government. He
mentioned that the prepared scheme will be submitted to Yogyakarta Mayor
Hasto Wardoyo for approval.

“If the Mayor has already made a statement about it, he will
implement WFH possibly on Fridays, and to avoid disrupting services on
other days, the plan is to extend the hours. Now, technically, we are
still discussing and refining it with the performance team. We will then
submit it to the Mayor for a decision,” Dedi told reporters on Monday
(23/3/2026).

He explained that the implementation of WFH is a follow-up to the
central government’s policy plans to promote efficiency in civil servant
performance. One of the objectives is to reduce operational costs such
as electricity, water, and other office needs.

Nevertheless, Dedi stressed that this efficiency must not affect the
quality of public services. The City Government will ensure that
services continue to operate optimally even if some civil servants work
from home.

“It will not disrupt services to the public. We can make adjustments,
including by maximising online-based services,” he clarified.

“Online services can even be available 24 hours and do not recognise
holidays. The principle is that we are ready, as long as public services
continue to run well,” Dedi added.

Previously reported, the Yogyakarta City Government has begun
preparing a scheme related to the one-day-per-week work-from-home
policy. This policy will be implemented after the Eid al-Fitr
holiday.

Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo revealed that although the scheme is
not yet final, they have designed a work pattern adjusted to the policy.
One of them is designating Friday as the WFH implementation day for
civil servants in the Yogyakarta City Government.

However, the WFH system planned for Fridays is assured not to disrupt
the civil servants’ work system or services to the public.

“To keep work effective, my plan is WFH on Fridays and extend office
hours on regular days until the evening to cover the shortfall from one
WFH day,” Hasto said when contacted by reporters via short message on
Sunday (22/3).
",
