YLKI sees possible bus fare war<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) said it
\nsaw the possibility of a fare war breaking out among bus
\ncompanies during the peak travel season, following a government
\nplan to introduce a set increase and reduction on fares to
\nreplace the existing pricing mechanism.<\/p>\n
Ministry of Transportation has recommended a ceiling of a 20
\npercent increase and a 20 percent cut on all bus fares during the
\nupcoming mass exodus and return of holidayers during Idul Fitri,
\nwhich falls on Dec. 5 and Dec. 6 this year.<\/p>\n
\"This is not the right time to submit this proposal because
\nthe government is still studying it,\" the YLKI coordinator on
\ntransportation affairs, Tulus Abadi, said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\"Leaving the fare cuts and increases to bus companies could
\nresult in price cartels led by the companies,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Tulus said the government should instead improve the
\ntransportation infrastructure and do its best to reduce traffic
\njams, which always occur during Idul Fitri.<\/p>\n
Tulus said bus companies were hit hard by poor road conditions
\nand lengthy traffic jams. -- JP<\/p>",
