The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) has condemned the\ninvolvement of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in the\ninvestigation of alleged corruption at state-owned enterprises PT PLN,\nASABRI, and Krakatau Steel. Dozens of TNI personnel were deployed to\nguard the residence of the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes\n(Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, following a series of police\nsearches.<\/p>\n
YLBHI Chairman M. Isnur stated that the military\u2019s involvement could\npotentially serve as intimidation and obstruct the legal process,\namounting to obstruction of justice. \u201cThis action hinders law\nenforcement and obscures the process of evidence discovery,\u201d he said in\nan official statement on Thursday, 9 July 2026.<\/p>\n
He argued that this incident confirms YLBHI\u2019s previous concerns\nregarding TNI involvement in securing the Attorney General\u2019s Office.\nSuch involvement is regulated by Presidential Regulation Number 66 of\n2025 on State Protection for Prosecutors. Isnur deemed the regulation\nunconstitutional, asserting that it is not within the TNI\u2019s authority.\n\u201cThis policy paves the way for the military to enter the civilian\ndomain, law enforcement, and the judicial system beyond defence\nmatters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Isnur stressed that the TNI should not be involved in civilian law\nenforcement, nor act as personal guards for prosecution officials or as\na tool to pressure investigators. He also insisted that law enforcement\napparatus must not be drawn into political conflicts, institutional\ndisputes, or power struggles between state bodies. \u201cIf a criminal\ninvestigation must face the deployment of troops and military guards, it\nis not just one case that is threatened, but the very foundation of the\nrule of law itself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He warned that this situation sets a dangerous precedent for the\nfuture of law enforcement in Indonesia, suggesting that legal processes\ncannot touch state officials. He called on President Prabowo Subianto to\norder the TNI Commander to refrain from intervening in law\nenforcement.<\/p>\n
Dozens of TNI personnel were observed guarding Febrie Adriansyah\u2019s\nluxury residence on Jalan Radio, Kramat Pela, South Jakarta, on\nWednesday evening, 8 July 2026. The guard was mounted after police\nsearched Cafe de\u2019Clan Signatur in Cipete, South Jakarta, earlier that\nday. The search was conducted by investigators from the Police\u2019s\nCorruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) and the Metro Jaya\nRegional Police\u2019s General Criminal Investigation Directorate.<\/p>\n
Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, Head of the TNI Information Centre,\nstated that the guard was carried out at the request of the Attorney\nGeneral\u2019s Office as part of inter-agency cooperation, in line with\nPresidential Regulation Number 66 of 2025 on state protection for\nprosecutors.<\/p>\n
Kortastipidkor Chief Inspector General Totok Suharyanto said the\nsearch was related to corruption, money laundering, and bribery cases at\nPT Asabri, as well as a coal supply corruption case that caused\nblackouts in Sumatra and a case at PT Krakatau Steel. A total of eight\nlocations were searched that day, including the caf\u00e9 and a money\nchanger.<\/p>\n
