China (ANTARA) - Xpeng has submitted a recall plan to China\u2019s State\nAdministration for Market Regulation (SAMR) to address a critical defect\nin the air suspension system of its flagship MPV, the X9.<\/p>\n
According to the company\u2019s recall notice quoted by local automotive\noutlet Carnewschina on Friday (24 July) local time, the company will\nrecall 33,473 Xpeng X9 units produced between 8 August 2023 and 11\nAugust 2025. The recall programme is scheduled to take official effect\non 28 August 2026.<\/p>\n
The recall stems from variations in the production process affecting\nthe airtightness of the front air spring. Xpeng warned that long-term\nuse in environments with high temperature and humidity could cause the\nfront air suspension to slowly leak air.<\/p>\n
To resolve the issue, Zhaoqing Xpeng New Energy Investment Co.,\nLtd.\u00a0will replace, free of charge, the latest version of the front air\nspring slide pillar assembly on all affected vehicles. Vehicles that\nhave already been fitted with the updated component prior to the recall\nprogramme will not require further repair.<\/p>\n
The recall follows a wave of complaints from vehicle owners,\nparticularly in regions such as Chongqing, China, where extreme\nheatwaves coincided with reports of vehicle chassis suddenly\nsagging.<\/p>\n
In an earlier response to the issue, Xpeng customer service\nattributed some of the warnings to a \u201cthermal protection\u201d mode,\nexplaining that overly frequent ride-height adjustments in high\ntemperatures could cause the compressor to overheat.<\/p>\n
However, through this recall programme, Xpeng has officially\nacknowledged a defect in the hardware component related to airtightness,\nrather than it being solely a consequence of the thermal protection\nsystem.<\/p>\n
In Indonesia, this large electric vehicle is priced at around Rp1.1\nto Rp1.25 billion. It is not yet known whether this recall will affect\nunits in Indonesia, but the X9 sold in Indonesia is not imported from\nChina; it is CKD (Completely Knocked Down) status, meaning it is\nassembled locally.
