China has issued a forceful condemnation of the killing of Iran\u2019s\nSupreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by the United States and Israel,\nwith the government calling for an immediate cessation of military\noperations in the region.<\/p>\n
President Xi Jinping\u2019s administration stated through the Foreign\nMinistry that the killing constitutes a grave violation of Iran\u2019s\nsovereignty and security. Officials declared that the actions undertaken\nby the two allied nations against Tehran breach the objectives and\nprinciples enshrined in the UN Charter and fundamental norms of\ninternational relations.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina firmly opposes and strongly condemns this,\u201d the statement read\non Sunday, with officials reiterating their position on Monday, 2 March\n2026. \u201cImmediate cessation of military operations,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n
The condemnation came immediately after Chinese state media reported\na telephone conversation between Beijing\u2019s senior diplomat Wang Yi and\nhis Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. According to the state news\nagency Xinhua, Lavrov initiated the call.<\/p>\n
Wang asserted that the open killing of a leader of a sovereign state\nand incitement for regime change by the United States and Israel were\nwholly unacceptable. China expressed serious concern that the situation\nin the Middle East could be pushed toward a dangerous precipice.<\/p>\n
