Social media platform X is replacing its Revenue Sharing program with a new 'Original Content Rewards' scheme, phasing out the old system. The new program, announced by the platform, will require creators to subscribe to X Premium and meet follower and impression thresholds, while strictly penalising content that merely reposts or copies material from other accounts. This shift follows previous failed attempts to adjust creator payments and aims to realign incentives towards generating novel content on the platform.

Social media platform X, owned by businessman Elon Musk, is
reportedly changing its monetisation scheme for influencers and
creators. According to a report from TechCrunch on Saturday (8/9), X
will phase out the current Revenue Sharing program and replace it with a
new scheme called Original Content Rewards. The primary change in the
new program is an emphasis on content originality. X will no longer
accept new participants for the Revenue Sharing program, although
existing participants can still earn until 7 September. Starting 8
September, they can apply for the new program. To be eligible, creators
must subscribe to an X Premium package and meet requirements including
500 verified followers and at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions
from verified users within 90 days. Content such as commentary will
still be counted, but X stressed that if a user’s content routinely uses
material created by others, they must add significant original value to
meet the platform’s original content guidelines. X provided examples of
content not considered original, such as posts merely copied from other
accounts, content downloaded from one account and re-uploaded to
another, or reposted content without meaningful transformation. Allegra
Jacchia, a representative from X, stated that the current program had
reached a point where its incentives were no longer aligned. She said
creators should focus on bringing new and original content to the
platform, rather than just chasing payouts. Jacchia added that while the
company could have added more rules and exceptions, the better decision
was to start fresh with a program designed from day one to reward
originality. This announcement follows several attempts by X to fix the
Revenue Sharing program, including an effort in April to reduce payments
to aggregator accounts and those using clickbait tactics.
",
