        "content": "<p>WWF Indonesia has strongly condemned the killing of a tapir in\nMesuji, Lampung. The incident is seen as a serious warning about the\nincreasingly threatened living space of wildlife due to pressure on\ntheir habitats. In an official statement, WWF emphasised that wild\nanimals venturing out of forest areas should receive proper protection\nand handling, not be killed by humans. According to WWF, the Asian tapir\n(Tapirus indicus) is currently listed as endangered on the IUCN Red\nList. Therefore, any threat to the species\u2019 population could worsen\nongoing conservation efforts. WWF believes the appearance of the tapir\nnear areas of human activity indicates significant pressure on its\nnatural habitat within the forest. The solitary and shy animal plays an\nimportant role in maintaining the ecosystem through seed dispersal,\nwhich aids forest regeneration. \u2018Tapirs hold a very important ecological\nrole as natural seed dispersers that support the sustainability of\nforests in the future,\u2019 WWF wrote in its statement on Saturday (4\/7). In\nline with this, WWF urged the public not to take actions that could\nendanger wildlife when found outside their habitat. The public is asked\nto keep a safe distance, not to provoke, and to avoid chasing or\ncrowding the animal for the sake of documentation or social media\ncontent. The conservation organisation also requested that residents\nimmediately report the presence of wildlife to the Natural Resources\nConservation Agency (BKSDA) or local authorities so that handling can be\ncarried out by competent officers. WWF stressed that wildlife protection\nis a shared responsibility. The organisation invited the public to build\nawareness of sharing living space between humans and wildlife so that\nsimilar conflicts do not continue to recur. \u2018Protecting endangered\nwildlife is our collective responsibility.
