Writing contest from Australia<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Australian Studies Center of the University of
\nIndonesia (ASC-UI) has launched an essay writing competition for
\nIndonesian and Australian journalists, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
The competition, which aims to enhance greater understanding
\nbetween Indonesian and Australian journalists, ends on July 31,
\ndirector of the ASC-UI, Reni Winata, said on Monday.<\/p>\n
\"The competition will also provide feedback on how the
\nIndonesian and Australian press have been observing the current
\nsocial and political climate in the country and how far this
\nobservation has influenced the bilateral relationship between the
\ntwo countries,\" Winata said.<\/p>\n
The competition is open to all Indonesian and Australian
\njournalists in the print and broadcast media, including freelance
\nwriters.<\/p>\n
Indonesian participants are asked to write an essay in Bahasa
\nIndonesia which reflects their perception of Indonesia during its
\npresent transition period.<\/p>\n
The winner, one from Indonesia and one from Australia, will be
\nawarded a round-trip ticket from Indonesia to Australia\/from
\nAustralia to Indonesia, along with A$2,000 for each winner.<\/p>\n
The panel of judges consists of senior diplomats, observers
\nand journalists from both countries.<\/p>\n
They are former Australian ambassador to Indonesia Richard
\nWoolcott, sociopolitical expert Arief Budiman, senior Indonesian
\nenvoy Hasyim Djalal, international editor of The Australian daily
\nPaul Kelly, editor-in-chief of Antara news agency Parni Hadi and
\neditor of The Fall of Soeharto Geoff Forrester.<\/p>\n
