World-class painting exhibition due here<\/p>\n
Jakarta will soon host a spectacular painting exhibition,
\ndisplaying more than 500 masterpieces by renowned local and
\ninternational artists.<\/p>\n
The exhibition called "The Jakarta International Fine Arts"
\nwill include the original works by Paul Cezanne, Pablo Picasso,
\nHenri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh, Francisco de Goya and Renoir.<\/p>\n
Local paintings include works by Raden Saleh, Basuki Abdullah,
\nAffandi, Mochtar Apin and Lee Man-Fong.<\/p>\n
Organized jointly by the newly established Yayasan Seni Rupa
\nIndonesia and the London-based Bradbury International Services
\nPte. Ltd, the exhibition will take place at the Sangri-la
\nHotel from Oct. 18 through 23.<\/p>\n
Susrinah Sanyoto Sastrowardoyo, the organizing committee's
\nchairperson, told reporters yesterday that 12 well-known art
\ngalleries from the United States, Europe and Asia will also take
\npart at the exhibition where they will be displaying their
\noutstanding art collections.<\/p>\n
The organizing committee will also organize a fine art contest
\nin which artists will compete for the Philip Morris Award.
\nIndonesian artists are invited to join the competition, she said.<\/p>\n
She explained that the Foundation, Yayasan Seni Rupa
\nIndonesia, was established on June 8 of this year. The foundation
\nis aimed at encouraging cultural activities, and fine arts in
