World-class filmmakers to lecture at JiFFest<\/p>\n
Faced with a short supply of quality screenplays in the
\ndomestic film industry, the Jakarta International Film Festival
\n(JiFFest) is planning to organize workshops in script writing.<\/p>\n
Participants for the workshop, slated for Dec. 10 and Dec. 18
\nwill benefit from lectures given by top-notch scriptwriters like
\nDavid Howard and Graeme Isaacs.<\/p>\n
Howard, writer of The Tools to Screenwriting, is an Emmy
\nwinner and has been lauded for his sci-fi hit Galaxy Quest, while
\nIsaacs was nominated for best world cinema documentary at the
\nSundance film festival for his film Dhakiyarr vs the King.<\/p>\n
Other luminaries due to lecture are Australian award-winning
\nproducer Curtis Levy and winner at the 2005 Sundance film
\nfestival Leonard Retel Helmrich.<\/p>\n
The workshop will have programs to develop scriptwriting
\nskills for short fiction, short documentary, feature and long
\ndocumentary films.<\/p>\n
Workshop participants will be selected from professionals in
\nthe film industry and those who aspire to take the plunge.<\/p>\n
In each category, JiFFest will select 10 professional writers
\nand 20 observers.<\/p>\n
Those who are not selected to be participants may register as
\nobservers, an arrangement that enables them to sit in and watch.<\/p>\n
A script development competition is to be held in tandem with
\nthe workshop; contest winners will get a cash prize that they
\ncould use to develop their films.<\/p>\n
The deadline for entries was Oct. 15.<\/p>\n
