World champion Chrisjon gets windfall for his boxing feat<\/p>\n

Newly-declared world champion Christian John, who is more
\npopularly known as Chrisjon, has been awarded Rp 97.5 million
\n(around US$11,700) in cash bonuses.<\/p>\n
The bonuses were collected from various parties and were
\nhanded over by Central Java Governor Mardiyanto in a ceremony at
\nthe Grand Candi Hotel in Semarang on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Chrisjon, 23-years-old, is the third Indonesian to be crowned
\nthe world champion after past champions Ellyas Pical and Nico
\nThomas.<\/p>\n
Chrisjon rise to the championship in the featherweight
\ndivision of the World Boxing Association (WBA) began when he
\ndefeated Oscar Leon of Colombia in an 'ad interim' fight in Bali
\non Sept. 28 last year.<\/p>\n
Despite the win, Chrisjon had to wait for two months before he
\ndeclared the world champion after reigning champion Derrick
\nGainer of United States lost to Juan Marquez of Venezuela in his
\nbid to unify his WBA title with the International Boxing
\nFederation (IBF) title on Nov. 1.<\/p>\n
The vacated crown was promptly awarded to the Indonesian.<\/p>\n
Anton Sihombing, the chairman of the Indonesian Boxing
\nCommission (KTI), hailed Chrisjon achievement, saying: \"Chrisjon
\nis the only world champion we have today.\"<\/p>\n
Mardiyanto offered his fatherly advice, warning Chrisjon
\nagainst overly satisfaction and urging him to train even harder
\nin the future.<\/p>\n
After his recognition, Chrisjon, under trainer Muchlis Sutan
\nRambing, is likely to face the true test when he takes on Jose
\nCheo Rojas of Venezuela, which will be his first defense.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that the match is scheduled to be held at the
\nKelapa Gading Sports Mall, North Jakarta, in late February.<\/p>",
