        "content": "<p>World Bank president visits Indonesia<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): World Bank President James D. Wolfensohn is due<br>\nin Denpasar, Bali, today at the start of his five-day visit to<br>\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Finance said in a statement yesterday that<br>\nWolfensohn is scheduled to meet with President Soeharto on May<br>\n15, and prior to that, with Minister of Finance Mar&apos;ie Muhammad<br>\nto discuss the World Bank&apos;s aid to Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The World Bank currently leads an international consortium of<br>\ndonor countries to Indonesia, called the Consultative Group on<br>\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The group, formed in 1992 to replace the Netherlands-led<br>\nInter-Governmental Group on Indonesia, has provided nearly US$5<br>\nbillion in assistance each year since its formation.<\/p>\n<p>The World Bank-led group, which has met annually, is scheduled<br>\nto meet again in early July to discuss new assistance to<br>\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Wolfensohn&apos;s visit to Indonesia is his first here since he<br>\nassumed the World Bank&apos;s chairmanship in June last year.<\/p>\n<p>During his visit, Wolfensohn will be accompanied by Executive<br>\nDirector of World Bank in Indonesia Suwan Pasugwad and the bank&apos;s<br>\nVice President for East Asia and the Pacific Russel Cheetham.<\/p>\n<p>Besides meeting with Indonesian officials, Wolfensohn is<br>\nscheduled to speak at the Indonesia Summit, a seminar to be<br>\nopened by Soeharto next Monday. Wolfensohn will speak on<br>\nSustainable Development: Indonesia&apos;s Experience.<\/p>\n<p>Wolfensohn is also scheduled to hold discussions with<br>\nrepresentatives of a number of non-governmental organizations,<br>\nfemale intellectuals, business people, lecturers at the<br>\nYogyakarta Institute of Teacher Training and Education and the<br>\nYogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada University, as well as those<br>\nparticipating in the World Bank-sponsored projects.<\/p>\n<p>He plans to visit a number of projects which are financed by<br>\nthe International Finance Corporation, an affiliate of the World<br>\nBank.<\/p>\n<p>The projects to be visited by Wolfensohn include a non-formal<br>\neducational center in West Nusa Tenggara, Indorama&apos;s textile<br>\nfactory in Purwakarta, West Java, a village infrastructure<br>\nproject in Magelang, Central Java, and a revolving fund project<br>\nin Yogyakarta.
