Workers' relatives banned from airport<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration has
\ndeclared the special terminal for arriving migrant workers at the
\nSoekarno-Hatta airport off-limits for family members hoping to
\ngreet them and take them home.<\/p>\n
Director General of Workers Protection and Advocacy Mardjono
\nsaid on Wednesday the new policy was aimed at curbing rampant
\ncases of extortion and cheating at the terminal reported by
\nmigrant workers.<\/p>\n
\"In the end, it is the ministry, which will be blamed at home
\nor in international forums,\" Mardjono said.<\/p>\n
The widespread extortion of arriving Indonesian migrant
\nworkers was one of the key issues deliberated upon during the
\nInternational Labor Organization meeting in Tokyo recently,
\nMardjono said. \"No such cases of extortion, however, were seen by
\nPresident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono when visited the terminal last
\nSaturday,\" Mardjono argued.<\/p>\n
He said extortion was made possible because many people, who
\nclaimed to be relatives of migrant workers, were allowed to enter
