        "content": "<p>Workers rally for better welfare<\/p>\n<p>TANGERANG (JP): At least 75 workers from jeans dyeing and<br>\nwashing firm PT Garmenindo Jasa Pratama in Jatiuwung district<br>\nhere staged a rally on Wednesday to demand welfare improvements.<\/p>\n<p>They marched eight kilometers from their factory in the<br>\nKroncong industrial estate to the Tangerang office of the<br>\nMinistry of Manpower.<\/p>\n<p>They demanded a wage increase and a reduction in their work<br>\nshifts from three a day to two.<\/p>\n<p>Also among their demands is a transportation allowance of Rp<br>\n2,000 a day, daily meal allowance of Rp 2,000, two-day<br>\nmenstruation leave and three months maternity leave.<\/p>\n<p>An employee of the manpower office who asked not to be named<br>\nsaid the firm's executive, Alay alias Nurmin, did his best to<br>\nimprove workers' welfare. The official declined to identify the<br>\nmeasures.<\/p>\n<p>Manpower office chief Apon Suryana urged the workers to settle<br>\ntheir dispute amicably with their employer.<\/p>\n<p>\"They should not stage a rally if the two parties have good<br>\ncommunication,\" Apon said.
