Workers rally at district court<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Worker unions of two companies held different
\ndemonstrations inside the Central Jakarta District Court,
\ndisturbing the hearings conducted in the court here on Monday.<\/p>\n
The first demonstration was staged by the workers' union of
\nstate-owned electricity company PT PLN at 11 a.m. Dozens of
\npeople carried banners and walked to the third floor of the court
\nbuilding, where the session was held.<\/p>\n
The protesters demanded the court cancel an agreement over
\nelectricity transactions between PT PLN and PT Paiton Energy.<\/p>\n
They accused PT Paiton of marking up the price of electricity
\nsupplies to some US$700 million, which had badly affected the
\ncountry's economy.<\/p>\n
Not long after the first protest ended at about 1 p.m.,
\nanother group of people staged a protest by conducting a speech
\ninside the court.<\/p>\n
The second group claimed to be from the workers' union of Bank
\nPanin, who demanded the court suspend the trial of the Cirebon
\nbranch bank employees Imam Sutrisno and Tata Zoelkarnaen.<\/p>\n
Both defendants were tried for defamation against their
\nsupervisor in Bank Panin Jakarta Akijat Lukito. -- JP<\/p>",
