        "content": "<p>Workers protest unjust treatment<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): At least 150 PT Intermitra Ragamulia<br>\nIndustries&apos;s workers protested at the House of Representatives<br>\nMonday about threats of arbitrary dismissal from their employer.<\/p>\n<p>A delegation of the workers told three members of the Golkar<br>\nfaction the company had decided to move from Tambun, 40<br>\nkilometers southeast of here, to Gunung Putri, Bogor, and had<br>\nordered all the workers to work at the new site.<\/p>\n<p>H. Suparman, the delegation&apos;s head, said the reason for the<br>\nmove was the company was turning its activities in Bekasi to<br>\nproducing shoes, bags, leather jackets, and tents.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Right now, we are under pressure from the company to move to<br>\nBogor and 50 people that rejected the order were suspended,<br>\nwithout severance allowance, until further notice,&quot; Suparman<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>He said they had opposed the order in a three-day strike last<br>\nweek and demanded an explanation of the move and their future in<br>\nthe new company.<\/p>\n<p>Suparman said the change was planned in December and that the<br>\ncompany had unilaterally changed employees&apos; position and rights.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Some of us who were supervisors were demoted to janitors in<br>\nthe Bogor factory, and those who opposed the policy -- especially<br>\nthe women -- they threatened to throw behind bars,&quot; Suparman<br>\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>They were trying to intimidate the workers, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The company, which has headquarters in Cempaka Putih, Central<br>\nJakarta, refused to comment on the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>An official of the company&apos;s General Affairs Department told<br>\nThe Jakarta Post he did not know about the strike or the move to<br>\nBogor.<\/p>\n<p>An agreement between the Bekasi office management and the unit<br>\nof the Federation of All Indonesian Workers Unions (SPSI) signed<br>\non March 1, said the workers who moved to Bogor would have the<br>\nsame rights as before.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement also said PT Intermitra would provide transport<br>\nand extra incentives to workers at the new factory. Copies of the<br>\nagreement were handed out at the House.<\/p>\n<p>IDP. Supartha Nida, of the Golkar faction, told the delegation<br>\nthey would look into the matter and try to find a solution.<\/p>\n<p>He thanked the delegation for registering their complaints<br>\nwith the House.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We won&apos;t tolerate any injustice in this country,&quot; he said.<br>\n(12)<\/p>",
