        "content": "<p>Workers protest suspension<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of workers from giant company PT Texmaco<br>\nGroup in Central Java have protested being left jobless for<br>\nmonths, since January this year.<\/p>\n<p>Their 22 representatives staged a rally at the Central Java<br>\nlegislative council in Semarang on Wednesday to demand that<br>\nprovincial authorities help resolve the issue.<\/p>\n<p>They said Texmaco had suspended 2,550 workers and laid off<br>\n1,540 others during the January to September period.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters, grouped under the Texmaco Workers Rescue<br>\nCommunication Forum (FKPKT), claimed to represent around 8,000<br>\nworkers of the company.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The worsening performance of Texmaco makes the fate of its<br>\nworkers uncertain, while the company&apos;s majority shares are under<br>\nthe government&apos;s control, through the Indonesian Bank<br>\nRestructuring Agency,&quot; said FKPKT secretary Bambang Mulyadi.<\/p>\n<p>The workers are among 8,000 employed by five of Texmaco&apos;s<br>\nsubsidiaries in Central Java -- PT Texmaco Taman Synthetics,<br>\nPolisyndo Eka Perkasa, Texmaco Perkasa Engineering, Texmaco Jaya<br>\nand Multi Karsa Investasi.<\/p>\n<p>The suspended workers are paid only 75 percent of their<br>\nmonthly basic salaries, while those laid off were given one-month<br>\nseverance payment.<\/p>\n<p>Bambang said other workers who are still employed have<br>\nfrequently received their wages 10 days late.<\/p>\n<p>Daroji, one of the councillors who met with the protesters,<br>\npromised that the council would hold a meeting to discuss the<br>\nTexmaco labor issue next week. --JP<\/p>",
