Workers protest arbitrary firing<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Ten employees of a company which produces Fuji
\ncameras in Bogor went to the office of the National Commission on
\nHuman Rights over the weekend to complain that they had been
\narbitrarily fired by the firm's owner.<\/p>\n
The workers told the commission's secretary, Baharuddin Lopa,
\nthat the company's management had offered severance pay amounting
\nto two months' wages, with another half month's salary to be
\ngiven as an Idul Fitri bonus, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
One of the workers said they turned down the offer. They are
\ndemanding severance pay amounting to five months' wages.<\/p>\n
"Actually we still want to continue working for the company,
\nbut if the management insists on firing us, we want them pay each
\nof us five months' wages instead of two," he said.<\/p>\n
He expressed hope that the commission would help convince the
\ncompany to cancel its decision to dismiss them. (bas)<\/p>",
