Workers fail to cross border<\/p>\n
PONTIANAK, West Kalimantan: Four hundred and fifty people who
\nwere planning to enter Malaysia illegally were netted on
\nWednesday during a clean-up operation led by Pontianak mayor R.A.
\nSiregar.<\/p>\n
The job seekers, hoping to work in Malaysia's state of
\nSarawak, had been stranded in Pontianak for around two to three
\nmonths, after a private-run manpower agency failed to dispatch
\nthem to their employers.<\/p>\n
The agency, unable to provide them with passports, has
\naccommodated them in the houses of local people and most of them
\nhave not been well fed.<\/p>\n
Attractive wages have lured hundreds of thousands of
\nIndonesians to work in Malaysia. Many routinely try the illegal
\nway, defying Malaysian employment regulations.<\/p>\n
The 450 stranded job seekers will be shipped back to their
\nhometown, Semarang, the provincial capital of Central Java.<\/p>\n
Siregar told Antara that the local authorities would soon take
\nlegal action against the manpower agency. (03)<\/p>",
