Workers demand better welfare, milk<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: After a three-day rally, some 900 factory workers
\nof PT Hancook Ceramics Indonesia, in the Pasar Kemis district of
\nTangerang, went on strike from Friday to Saturday demanding
\nimprovement in welfare benefits.<\/p>\n
Jejen, one of the workers, said on Saturday that the rally was
\ninitiated by workers in the printing department, who demanded the
\nmanagement to fulfill its promise to provide a glass of milk for
\nworkers each day as a dietary supplement, because they worked
\nwith chemicals that could affect their health.<\/p>\n
Since the management did not respond positively, workers from
\nother departments demonstrated their solidarity by joining the
\nstrike, he said.<\/p>\n
He added that the management had also failed to fulfill their
\npromise to improve the workers' welfare through the provision of
\ntransportation allowances and other benefits. -- JP<\/p>",
