Police are investigating alleged workplace negligence following the\ncollapse of a retaining wall at a boarding house construction project in\nJatinangor District, Sumedang. The incident resulted in the death of one\nworker. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the\ncause of the workplace accident, including whether the project\u2019s\nimplementation complied with standard operational procedures.<\/p>\n
\u2018We are currently conducting an investigation in coordination with\nthe local government to ascertain whether the construction work was\ncarried out in accordance with applicable SOPs,\u2019 said Head of the\nSumedang Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Adjunct Police Commissioner\nTanwin Nopiansah, on Saturday, 11 July 2026.<\/p>\n

Previously, Jatinangor Police Chief Police Commissioner Rogers Thomas\nsaid a worker was successfully evacuated by a joint team after being\nburied under landslide material from the boarding house project\u2019s\nretaining wall for approximately one and a half hours at a depth of\naround 50 centimetres. \u2018The buried victim was found after approximately\none to one and a half hours from the start of the evacuation process, at\na depth of around 50 centimetres,\u2019 Rogers said.<\/p>\n
He explained that the incident occurred at around 11:45 Western\nIndonesian Time as workers were preparing the foundation work for the\nboarding house building before performing Friday prayers. According to\nRogers, the landslide was suspected to have originated from vibrations\ncaused by excavation activities, which caused the suspended foundation\nat the top to collapse and fall on two workers.
