        "content": "<p>Women still facing traditional problems<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Women are still encountering traditional hurdles<br>\nin their efforts to enter the workforce in the age of<br>\nglobalization, a psychologist here has said.<\/p>\n<p>Although there are more job opportunities for women today,<br>\nthey still face rivalry from men, Sartono Mukadis, a psychologist<br>\ntold a seminar on the impact of globalization, technology and<br>\ninformation on family and women, over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>He said that due to technological and information<br>\ndevelopments, many job opportunities are now offered to women.<\/p>\n<p>Citing examples, Sartono said that due to the development of<br>\ntechnology, several employment in fields like the military, stock<br>\nexchange and information industry are now also offered to women.<\/p>\n<p>According to data, he said, about 40 percent of Indonesia's<br>\nworkforce is women.<\/p>\n<p>\"Men or husbands take the reality as a threat because the area<br>\nwhere they can build-up themselves will decrease,\" Sartono said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that men believe that in this situation they will<br>\nsoon lose their role as provider, and are also worried that they<br>\nwill lose their authority over women.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sartono, this will result in a mechanism of self-<br>\ndefense accompanied by symptoms of neurosis.<\/p>\n<p>\"If the tendency is expressed in the mood of competition it<br>\nwill create no problems, but what we often see is covert<br>\naggression,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Another speaker was psychologist Leila Ch. Budiman, who<br>\ndiscussed ways to solve conflict in the family.<\/p>\n<p>She said conflict always exists, \"Because no one in the world<br>\nis identical,\" she said.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, people always perceive conflict as danger.<br>\n\"It is not always true,\" Leila said.<\/p>\n<p>\"The most important thing in this case is how we solve a<br>\nconflict,\" she said.
