        "content": "<p>Witnesses heard in Yacobus case<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The prosecution brought seven witnesses before the<br>\nCentral Jakarta District Court in the trial of an East Timorese<br>\nmilitiaman charged with murdering an international peacekeeper<br>\nfrom New Zealand two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>One of the witnesses, Corp. Nicholas Alan Marfell, confirmed<br>\nthat his International Peacekeeping Force patrol was attacked<br>\nfirst.  However, he told the court, which was presided over by<br>\nJudge I Nengah Suriada, that he did not know who it was that<br>\nattacked.<\/p>\n<p>The trial was adjourned until next week to hear other<br>\nwitnesses. Prosecutor M. Syafei earlier said he would present<br>\nsome 26 witnesses to the court.<\/p>\n<p>Defendant Yacobus Bere, 37, is charged with killing Pvt.<br>\nWilliam Leonard Manning, 24, in Debulilik hill, Suai, East Timor,<br>\non July 24, 2000. --JP<\/p>",
