        "content": "<p>Pusat Kajian Antikorupsi (Pukat) researcher from Gadjah Mada\nUniversity (UGM), Zaenur Rohman, has stated that the rejection of\njustice collaborator (JC) status for Sony Sanjaya, a suspect in the\nalleged corruption of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, does\nnot necessarily close the door to a more lenient sentence. According to\nhim, the main key lies in the suspect\u2019s cooperative attitude in\nrevealing all parties involved in the case. Zaenur encouraged Sony and\nhis legal counsel to remain cooperative with investigators and to be\nbold in disclosing all known information, including other parties\nsuspected of involvement. \u201cI want to give advice to Sony Sanjaya and his\nlegal counsel, even though his JC status was rejected, he must remain\ncooperative with investigators. Secondly, reveal all the names,\u201d Zaenur\nsaid when contacted by Media Indonesia on Tuesday (23\/6). He explained\nthat such a cooperative attitude is not only important during the\ninvestigation stage but will also be considered by the panel of judges\nwhen delivering a verdict in court. According to him, the defendant\u2019s\nopenness in revealing the roles of other parties can be a mitigating\nfactor. \u201cThe cooperative attitude in revealing all those names will be\ntaken into account by the panel of judges. The hope is that the panel of\njudges can deliver a lighter sentence because Sony has contributed to\nuncovering the involvement of all parties, even those that the\nprosecutor\u2019s office may not have uncovered yet,\u201d he said. Zaenur also\nstressed that the disclosure of facts does not have to stop at the\ninvestigation stage. He noted that the courtroom can also be used to\nreveal other parties, including if the public prosecutor does not\nactively pursue the names mentioned by the defendant. \u201cSony can also\nreveal it in court if the prosecutor remains silent and does not discuss\nthose 41 names,\u201d Zaenur stated. He added that the panel of judges has\nthe authority to follow up on information that emerges during the trial\nby instructing the public prosecutor to conduct further investigation\ninto the mentioned parties. Thus, Zaenur concluded, even though justice\ncollaborator status was not granted, there is still legal room for the\ndefendant to receive mitigating considerations as long as he is willing\nto cooperate and help uncover the case transparently. \u201cSo there is still\nanother way, not through JC but by revealing everything in court to get\na lighter sentence. Secondly, by admitting guilt and being willing to\nuncover everything to make all the issues clear,\u201d he concluded.
