Wiranto told to fight for more support<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Despite the fact that Gen. (ret) Wiranto enjoys
\nmassive support at the regency level, he will not automatically
\nmake it to the last five presidential candidates Golkar plans to
\nchoose later this month, a Golkar leader says.<\/p>\n
Golkar convention secretary Andi Mattalatta said Tuesday that
\na candidate had to be supported by five provincial Golkar
\nchapters in order to contest the next presidential selection
\nround.<\/p>\n
Andi was commenting on a recent survey suggesting that Wiranto
\nwas supported by 99 regental chapters, 95 of which put the former
\nmilitary chief at the top of their lists.<\/p>\n
Golkar regental chapters have to select five of 19 candidates
\nto be submitted to the provincial chapters.<\/p>\n
Golkar is expected to announce its five candidates on Oct. 21
\nwhen its provincial chapters submit their respective presidential

U.S. gives milk to elementary students<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Ralph L. Boyce
\ncelebrated the World School Milk Day with students and teachers
\nof state-run Gondangdia Elementary School in Menteng, Central
\nJakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
After donating 168 packs of milk, Boyce talked to the
\nstudents, who mostly come from poor families, on the importance
\nof drinking milk.<\/p>\n
The students were among 550,000 elementary students across the
\ncountry who received milk under the Milk for School Health
\nEfforts (UKS) program, this year.<\/p>\n
Boyce said his government had agreed to provide US$15 million
\nannually to support education in private and public schools in

Nine firms join KPU's IT tender<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Nine companies and consortium submitted on Tuesday
\ntheir bids with the General Elections Commission (KPU) on a
\nrenewed tender to provide Information Technology (IT)
\ninfrastructure for next year's general elections.<\/p>\n
The nine firms and consortium are PT Berca Hardaya Perkasa, PT
\nIntegrasi Teknologi, PT Bringin Gigantara, PT Multi Polar, PT
\nAsaba Computer Center, PT Adhisakti Solusi Komputindo, PT Texacom
\nHitek System, PT Swadharma Duta Data, and PT Anabatic Teknologi.<\/p>\n
Three companies\/consortium withdrew their participation in the
\ntender, including PT Pernadi Wiraperkasa, which qualified in the
\nearlier bid.<\/p>\n
KPU annulled last Thursday the previous tender, which was
\nsupposed to hear the announcement of the winners, due to
\ntechnical and procedural problems.<\/p>\n
A member of KPU IT infrastructure tender team Dalail said the
\nnext phase of the IT infrastructure tender would be to announce
\nseveral winning candidates on Oct. 13. --JP<\/p>",
