Wiranto for president?<\/p>\n

Small parties obtaining 3 percent of the vote in the general
\nelections may nominate their presidential candidates.<\/p>\n
As a result, they can easily nominate someone as a
\npresidential candidate regardless of their track record.<\/p>\n
One of these presidential hopefuls is Wiranto, who had an
\nimportant position in the New Order era and during the
\nadministration of BJ Habibie.<\/p>\n
It was when Wiranto held a government position that many
\nbloody tragedies occurred, including, among others, the Trisakti
\ntragedy, the Semanggi I and II incidents and the gross violations
\nof human rights in East Timor. Like it or not, Wiranto should be
\nresponsible for these bloody incidents.<\/p>\n
Today, Wiranto will come forward as a presidential candidate
\nfrom the Golkar Party, although of course to be an official
\ncandidate of the party he must first be selected at the party's
\nnational convention. Actually, morally and politically Wiranto
\nshould refrain from taking part in this presidential race
\nalthough legally he is entitled to do so.<\/p>\n
His participation in the presidential race will only disrupt
\nthe political and democratic system that is now being nurtured in
\nthis country. Besides, the public continues to demand that the
\nincidents referred to above be properly clarified and accounted
\nfor.<\/p>\n
It is hard to imagine what this nation will be like if Wiranto
\nis able to win the presidential race.<\/p>\n
