'Wild' billboards to be taken down<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The City Revenue Agency plans to take down all
\nunlicensed advertisement billboards and banners in and around the
\ncapital beginning on Monday, an official has said.<\/p>\n
\"A total of 408 unlicensed (street) advertisements will be
\ntaken down in our operation beginning Sept. 14,\" the agency's
\nhead, Wahab Rachmatsjah, said in a statement made available to
\nThe Jakarta Post on Friday.<\/p>\n
He urged owners of the \"wild\" advertisement billboards and
\nbanners to immediately obtain the required licenses.<\/p>\n
The operation against the unlicensed street advertisements is
\nmeant to discipline the advertisers as well as to help beautify
\nJakarta, Wahab said.<\/p>\n
Besides the large number of giant billboards on top of
\nbuildings and along the city's main thoroughfares, Jakarta also
\nhas a huge number of cloth banners hanging from lamp posts,
\npedestrian bridges and trees.<\/p>\n
The agency took down 473 street advertisements and issued 647
\nwarnings between April and August this year, Wahab said.<\/p>\n
During the five-month operation, 210 advertisers hastily met
\nthe city's requirements by paying some Rp 744 million to the
