A pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean, South Jakarta,\ncollapsed after being hit by a heavy equipment transport truck, causing\ntraffic chaos in the surrounding area. The traffic jams occurred from\nTuesday (14\/7\/2026) morning until noon, with unavoidable congestion\nreturning during the evening rush hour.<\/p>\n
The accident involving the crane truck striking the footbridge\nhappened on Tuesday at 00:30 WIB. The driver of the truck, with\nregistration number B-9077-UFU, failed to account for the vehicle\u2019s\nheight because he was using his mobile phone whilst driving along Jalan\nKapten Tendean.<\/p>\n
\u2018The driver of the heavy equipment towing vehicle did not calculate\nthe maximum height of the load,\u2019 stated the Jakarta Regional Disaster\nManagement Agency (BPBD) on Tuesday (14\/7). \u2018As a result, because the\nmaximum height of the transported unit was not calculated, it snagged on\nthe footbridge, causing the bridge to suffer quite severe damage,\u2019 BPBD\nadded.<\/p>\n
During the bridge demolition process, congestion occurred at several\npoints. The traffic jams arose because the lane towards Mampang was\nclosed during the dismantling, and traffic towards Blok M was diverted.\n\u2018Welding and demolition are still ongoing. It has been underway since\n12:00 WIB,\u2019 said Kompol Robby Hefados, Head of Binopsnal at the Metro\nJaya Police Traffic Directorate.<\/p>\n
Robby detailed that congestion points occurred on Jalan Suryo, Jalan\nSenopati, and Jalan Wolter Monginsidi. Traffic engineering in the form\nof diversions was implemented. \u2018Vehicles from Jalan Suryo are still\nbeing diverted towards Wolter Monginsidi. Vehicles from Mampang towards\nBlok M are diverted to Jalan Warung Buncit. Vehicles from the Rasuna\nSaid intersection are directed straight to Warung Buncit,\u2019 he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Observations in the Senopati area at 14:00 WIB showed congestion\nstretching from Jalan Gunawarman, with queues of vehicles extending to\nJalan Senopati. Vehicles could only move slowly, and motorcyclists were\nseen weaving between cars and even using bicycle lanes due to the severe\njam. The congestion continued to Jalan Suryo up to the Wolter Monginsidi\nintersection, where officers closed the road leading to Jalan Tendean or\nPancoran. Many drivers sounded their horns, and some motorcyclists\nattempted to ride on the pavements.<\/p>\n
In the Kuningan area at 14:56 WIB, congestion began at the Patra\nKuningan bus stop, with long queues of four-wheeled vehicles. The jam\nonly affected the right lane heading towards Tendean, while traffic\ntowards Pancoran was observed to be smooth. On Jalan Gatot Subroto at\n15:35 WIB, access towards Mampang Prapatan was diverted at the Kuningan\nintersection, with barriers blocking vehicles. Drivers could not turn\nright directly towards Mampang and were instead directed to turn left\nonto Jalan HR Rasuna Said before making a U-turn. Similarly, vehicles\nfrom Pancoran could not turn left directly to Mampang, as barriers\nblocked three access points to Mampang Prapatan at the Kuningan\nintersection. Traffic around the intersection was heavily congested,\nwith police and Transjakarta officers managing the flow.<\/p>\n
Congestion from the evacuation also occurred during the evening rush\nhour. At 17:15 WIB, traffic monitoring applications showed red\nindicators for congestion from the Kuningan intersection to the Semanggi\nInterchange. Jams were also scattered across various points, including\nJalan Rasuna Said, Jalan Pasar Minggu, the SCBD area, and Jalan Jenderal\nSudirman. By 18:25 WIB, the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Management Centre\nreported that Jalan Kapten Tendean towards the Santa traffic light was\nimpassable due to the bridge cutting process blocking the road.
