On Sept. 24, 1995, I met and talked with Perspektif's host Mr.
\nWimar Witoelar in the Obor Foundation's stand at the book
\nexhibition held in Istora Senayan, Jakarta.<\/p>\n
It is such a pity that I did not have the opportunity to
\nassure him of my support and sincere sympathy about his program
\nat SCTV, although I seldom watched it because was aired during
\nevening prays.<\/p>\n
I often feel very sad these days since there is so much
\nviolence around. Some of our brothers in Timika, Irian Jaya, were
\nkilled and we do not know who the killers are.<\/p>\n
Then came the banning of Perspektif, which was to feature Gus
\nDur (Abdurrahman Wahid) and judge Benyamin Mangkudilaga. The talk
\nshow was conducted in an honest and relaxed manner without any
\nintention of hurting anybody. Why was it axed?<\/p>\n
I was very impressed with the interviews given by Wimar to
\ninternational radio stations. When I listened to his cheerful
\naddresses about the fate of our children, reflecting great
\noptimism, my sadness would disappear.<\/p>\n
It seems that the road to democracy, justice and a state based
\non law and aristocracy of the mind is still a long and winding
\nroad, albeit one that is not without hope.<\/p>\n
