The policy merely reiterates his statement made<br>\nseveral years ago when he was the chairman of the board of<br>\nNahdlatul Ulama. The move has not only led to a major question<br>\namong the ulemas who know well who the Israelis really are;<br>\ndebates have also occurred among the economists.<\/p>\n<p>Taken in the real sense, what benefit can we gain from having<br>\ntrade relations with a small country with a small population such<br>\nas Israel? Will our exports be bigger than our imports? Why not<br>\nestablish and\/or enhance trade relations with Middle Eastern<br>\ncountries with a combined population greater than Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>We must look toward Islam.
