        "content": "<p>Idul Adha 1447 AH is celebrated today, Wednesday, 27 May 2026. Why is\nIdul Adha commonly referred to as Lebaran Haji or Idul Kurban?<\/p>\n<p>The day before Idul Adha, Hajj pilgrims perform wukuf at Arafah\nPlain, remaining there to draw closer to Allah. According to the Hajj\nFinancial Management Agency (BPKH) website, wukuf is the pinnacle rukun\n(pillar) of Hajj.<\/p>\n<p>During wukuf, pilgrims offer sincere prayers and recite dhikr\n(remembrance of Allah) until sunset. They then proceed to Muzdalifah to\nspend the night.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Muslims not performing Hajj are encouraged to observe the\nArafah fast.<\/p>\n<p>For Muslims, sacrificing an animal is a sunnah muakkadah (emphasised\ntradition). This obligation applies to Muslims who have reached puberty,\nare of sound mind, and are financially capable.<\/p>\n<p>Etymologically, Idul Adha has deep meaning derived from Arabic:\n\u2018idul\u2019 and \u2018adha\u2019. The term \u2018idul\u2019 or \u2018id\u2019 comes from \u2018ada yaudu\u2019,\nmeaning \u2018to return\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, \u2018adha\u2019 is the plural form of \u2018adhat\u2019, which originates\nfrom \u2018udhiyah\u2019, meaning \u2018sacrifice\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, Idul Adha can be interpreted as \u2018returning to sacrifice\u2019 or the\nfestival of animal sacrifice.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Religious Affairs states: \u2018Idul Adha marks two unique\nannual celebrations for Muslims: the Hajj pilgrimage and the act of\nsacrifice.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>At that time, Allah tested Prophet Ibrahim\u2019s faith by commanding him\nto sacrifice his son, Ismail.<\/p>\n<p>This test was profoundly difficult for Ibrahim, who had long awaited\na child. However, as a devoted servant, he chose to obey Allah\u2019s\ncommand.<\/p>\n<p>Prophet Ismail supported his father\u2019s decision to obey Allah,\naccepting the command with grace.<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of Ibrahim and Ismail\u2019s devotion, Allah replaced\nIsmail with a ram during the sacrifice.
