Why English language?<\/p>\n

It is a common practice, nowadays, among university students
\nto mix English and their local dialects in day-to-day life.
\nLecturers too are doing the same thing.<\/p>\n
It is quite apparent that they are not yet able to use the
\nnational language, Indonesian, well and correctly. Oddly enough,
\na good mastery of English is mandatory in every university in
\nthis country.<\/p>\n
Several private universities have applied English in
\ninterviews for admitting new students. The mastery of English is
\na passport to be admitted to universities.<\/p>\n
There is an educational establishment called the \"London
\nSchool\" in Jakarta. This could indicate that the students
\nstudying in that school are Americans, Australians or Europeans.
\nBut that is not the case. Most of the students are Indonesians,
\nand very few hail from other countries.<\/p>\n
Many local writers seem also to have a habit of including
\nEnglish words in their writing.<\/p>\n
