The sharp increase in fuel prices is palpably suffocating the
\npeople. Public minibuses, for example, from Depok to Bojonggede
\nhave gone on strike for the past three days. The people who
\nusually use their services at the Citayam and Bojonggede stations
\nhave been compelled to take more expensive ojek (motorcycle
\ntaxis) or to walk considerable distances to reach their
\ndestinations.<\/p>\n
This may be a small problem arising from the fuel price
\nincrease. However, we now see the joining of students and people
\nto voice their great concern. \"Are these voices being heard by
\nthe members of the House of Representatives (DPR)?\" asked one of
\nthe demonstrators in front of the MPR-DPR building. \"What about
\ntheir promises during the election campaign?\"<\/p>\n
Those promises sounded genuine when the campaigners still
\nneeded support. But once settled in their comfortable seats, the
\nlegislators seem reluctant to get up. They may have forgotten
\nthat a promise is a debt and a debt must be paid.<\/p>\n
