Who regulates billboards?<\/p>\n
I am expatriate currently working and living in Jakarta and
\nhave enjoyed several assignments in the capital city since 1979
\nfor periods in excess of two\/three years at various times.<\/p>\n
Over the last few months I have become concerned at an
\nevolution of "environmental pollution" creeping into Jakarta in
\nregards to the various advertising hoarding starting to be
\nerected in the city.<\/p>\n
Of particular disappointment is the very large advertising\/
\nsignage displays being erected in some of the key "focal" points
\nof the city. A major example is one of the best-photographed
\nsites in Indonesia, and one known historically worldwide -- that
\nof the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle.<\/p>\n
I particularly point out the huge hoarding on the Hotel
\nIndonesia site (a neon monstrosity at night) and what looks like
\nan even larger hoarding now erected in front of the Nusantara
\nBuilding. I have no problems in advertising billboards being
\nerected around town but these are enormous, spoil the ambience of
\nboth buildings, and destroy what was once a pleasant line of
\nsight view of the Welcome Monument.<\/p>\n
