        "content": "<p>The World Health Organisation (WHO) believes that measures to tackle\nthe Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are starting\nto yield results. However, greater funding is still required, stated WHO\nDirector-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are starting to see encouraging signs that we are beginning to\ncontrol the situation,\u201d said Ghebreyesus during a briefing in Geneva on\nWednesday.<\/p>\n<p>In the most affected region in Ituri Province, he noted that\ntransmission is beginning to decline, while South Kivu has reported no\nnew cases since May. More than 1,700 people have recovered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd after four months, the outbreak has largely been brought under\ncontrol in the north-eastern region of the DRC, except for a small\noutbreak in Uganda which was quickly contained,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe ask all donors to ensure that both the government\u2019s response plan\nand broader humanitarian efforts receive full funding,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that clinical trials are expected to begin in the coming\nweeks. At the same time, the WHO leader emphasised that the deadly\noutbreak continues to spread.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn areas with very high population mobility, the outbreak can still\nspread,\u201d said Ghebreyesus.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the DRC government released a 180-day Ebola response plan\nrequiring funds amounting to US$1.3 billion (approximately Rp23\ntrillion).<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest report released by the DRC government on\nTuesday, the number of confirmed cases has reached 7,258, while 3,510\ndeaths have been recorded since May.<\/p>",
