For more than six months I have been burdened with having to
\npay an extra Rp 500 for a National Games sticker when I go to pay
\nmy PLN electricity bill every month at the BRI bank branch in
\nCibubur. The bank tellers demand the Rp 500 because they say they
\nhave been instructed by the head office to collect the payment,
\nwhich supposedly goes toward this year's National Games.<\/p>\n
I have no objection to raising funds for sports development,
\nbut why must it be continuous and through state-owned electricity
\ncompany PLN?<\/p>\n
Suppose PLN has five million users, it would then collect Rp
\n2.5 billion monthly. The stickers bear no serial numbers, so how
\ncan one determine how much money has been collected? How does the
\ncontrol system work?<\/p>\n
One grows more suspicious due to the absence of news on the
\nsubject. There was a story once about someone who donated Rp 300
\nmillion to the National Games through Telkom, but why has there
\nnever been any news about the contributions from electricity and
\ntelephone users?<\/p>\n
A law should be passed requiring all corporations and
\ninstitutions that ask for contributions to make public the amount
\nof money they collect. It is not too late for PLN and Telkom to
\nannounce how much they have collected through monthly bill
\npayments.<\/p>\n
