Whence our nationalism?<\/p>\n
It hurts us as a nation when some of us help to stage anti-
\nIndonesia protests abroad.<\/p>\n
On his return flight from a visit to four countries, President
\nSoeharto said the government would take a firm measures against
\nsuch people.<\/p>\n
\"They are crazy people, irrational and have to be punished.
\nHow come they sell our nation out?\" the President said.<\/p>\n
This case is more saddening still because the nation is
\ncelebrating its 50th year of independence.<\/p>\n
We are of the opinion that those who would like to express
\nthemselves do not have to go abroad. Don't let frustrations blind
\nus and force us to take undue actions for ours is a state based
\non Pancasila.<\/p>\n
Globalization has rendered the world unbelievable information
\naccess. Whatever happens in our country will be known abroad
\ninstantly. Hence, it is no longer useful to stage demonstrations
\nabroad.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the globalization drive is scrutinizing our
\nnationalism. It is exactly in this era that our nationalism
\nshould be at its height.<\/p>\n
